DO NOT USE THEM. I learned a very hard life lesson hiring this company. They increased the quote 2K the day of pickup, they moved our stuff in a storage facility instead of driving it 1200 miles to our new house. They lost around $3k worth of our items and badly damaged a vintage table and 2 other non-replaceable items. The person unloading made me pay in all cash before unloading the truck and he tried to add extra money to the quote before unloading. He bullied the guys he subcontracted with so, double or triple subcontracting happened. They were screaming at each other in the driveway of our new neighborhood. The subcontractors refused to continue leaving our stuff in the truck. Then he bullied us so bad we were scared for our safety. He refused to take away the massive amount of trash he created saying it would cost us extra. We filed a claim with First Rate Movers about what happened and being bullied. They said they received our claim but would not do anything. The company did not seem to have access to their own claim forms for the missing items and damage. When we did get somewhere to file the items that were lost were not on the drop-down on their form so there was no way to claim them. They also only pay .60 per pound for anything lost. So our $1200 generator is now worth about $79 in the claim that we can't file. They also may not pay that out if we even can figure out how to file. They also are non-responsive to calls and emails. I wish I had a time machine for this disaster. Find a company that does NOT subcontract nor store items before they are delivered. Check on what is covered on your items if they lose them.

This company will make your move the worst possible in every imaginable aspect. I was paired with them through a brokerage company to move all of my belongings from Arkansas to NYC, and was told that they would be able to deliver everything on a specific date as I had informed them that I would be out of town for three weeks after that - they ended up arriving a full week late and I had to have a friend do my move for me since I wasn't there. Absolutely ZERO apology from the company, and the owner yelled down the phone that if I wanted to argue over the date on the contract I could lawyer up and he would have his lawyer ready. The day that they were moving my things in, I got a call that there was a "long carry" fee of $500, even though they were parked directly in front of my apartment building and had access to a reserved freight elevator that was in the lobby. By that standard, every move is a "long carry" move. Of course I was left no choice but to pay, as they had my belongings in their truck. Once I arrived home, I realized that they had lost an entire large box (I had maybe 10 boxes total being moved). I called them, and Jason told me that they would check the warehouse and ask the other moves that had been loaded in the same truck if they had my box. Over the next two weeks I called repeatedly, only to be told that it wasn't in the warehouse and that they were still checking with the other clients on the route. Finally, after AGAIN having to call instead of receiving any update from them, I was told that no other client had the box and I would have to file an insurance claim. Of course, not one single apology from the company for the fact that they lost an entire large box of my things. The contract they have you initial specifies in the fine print (my bad for not reading closer) that insurance coverage is given on a 60 cent/pound basis. So even though I had multiple items that were very valuable in the box they lost, the most I could receive as an insurance payout would be a pittance. Given the other reviews here, I am not wasting my time to file a claim because I doubt that I would ever receive my check. Absolutely do not use this company for your cross-country or local move - their ownership does not care one ounce about making your move bearable in any respect.

1st Generation was contracted by the broker I hired for my long distance move. They immediately told me that the price would be double because the estimate from Perennial was incorrect. The movers wrapped the furniture well but then packed the garage into large boxes cramming everything that was loose. In one box they packed the grass catcher from the lawnmower, a chain saw, my husband's suit bag (which was labeled suits)and the gas can from the chain saw. Then they took everything to a storage unit then later moved to another storage unit. The truck that delivered our belongings was loaded by a couple guys they hired off the street. Boxes and bins were loaded and then the furniture was piled on top. The lawnmower was packed sideways on top of boxes which ended up covered in gas and oil. When they moved the bedroom furniture they scratched the wood floor. The scratch went all the way across the room into the next room. Before they left the supervisor took pictures of the damage. When I called to follow up they didn't answer or return my calls.

I was looking for last minute movers after another company came to pick up my items and wanted to charge me 3 times more than their telephone quote. So I cancelled them and started to look for new movers. I had only 3 days to move my items out of the storage before I get charge for another month. I contacted few company and when I spoke with Diane (representative at 1st generation) I felt I should go with them. They came the next day, the movers were experienced and friendly. I had extra charge of $225 because they needed to pack few fragile items but overall they did a great job. They worked more than 4 hours to load my furniture’s and went straight to OK to deliver. Everything arrive in good shape, they put the beds back together. I was very relief to put this move behind me in such an easy way. So just to say 1st Generation Moving & Storage did a great job and I thank them.

Go read the BBB website reviews so you can see what 1st Generation cant delete to save their ratings on Google! They've completely wrecked or lost nearly ALL of our belongings that they packed and wrapped worth at least $7k in value and offered us $72. Once we confronted them about it through the BBB they said they'd fix the situation, but failed to notify CSI(claims company) and they closed our case. Not to mention, we have videos of their employees drinking on the job, videos of them packing our items(which we paid extra for and they are now denying to refuse offering us more on our claim), are unresponsive to any messages or phone calls unless done through BBB. We were supposed to get our belongings 7-21 days and didn't get them until >3 months later. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE PLEASE. If they respond appropriately or at all I will edit my review accordingly. For now, I will screenshot it so when they try to delete it I can keep reposting it (:
