Summer is here and for many Americans that means it’s time to move. If you do decide to move in the summer, it’s important to plan in advance. Summer is the busiest time of the year to move throughout the country. Waiting until the last minute to book your move could leave you out of options. If possible, try to book your move at least six weeks in advance to make sure you can get your desired date. Booking your move well in advance will make it less stressful and allow you to focus on cleaning and packing.

If you’re a parent, moving in the summer can be a huge advantage. Summer is undoubtedly the best time of year to move children. Most schools will not allow children to enroll unless it is the start of the year or the end of winter break. Outside of the academic schedule, moving a child during a school year can be a difficult adjustment. Being a new kid is hard enough, but a mid-year move can make it even tougher. While moving can always be hard on kids, they may appreciate a summer move more than one during the school year.

While moving in the summer is especially beneficial to parents, it can be helpful for anyone looking to clear some space. Summer is the main season for garage or yard sales around the country. If you’re moving, a garage or yard sale is a great way to get rid of items you don’t need and make a few bucks in the process. When planning your yard sale, make sure you pick the right weekend. It would also be a good idea to check and see if your city holds a city-wide date for garage sales. Hosting a moving sale will help keep you organized before your move.

When packing for a summer move, be aware of the heat. Certain items should not be packed into a warm moving van. Certainly, any food items should be thrown away before leaving or packed in a cooler. Along with food, leather furniture in plastic wrap could sustain damage if left in a warm moving van. You should also make sure to keep your cell phone in your pocket, leaving it out on a car seat could lead to overheating. If you have more questions, most movers will be able to help you decide which items can go in a van or truck and which should go in an air-conditioned car.

Once you arrive at your new home, make sure to have some cold drinks available. Working in the summer heat as a mover can be exhausting. If your movers don’t stay hydrated, it can be very difficult for them to work. You can also purchase food for your movers, or give them a tip for working in the heat.

Now that you’re all moved in, there’s no better time than the summer to throw a housewarming party! Summer is grilling season, and hosting a barbecue is a great way to meet your new neighbors. If you move into an apartment, the warm weather also provides a perfect setting to show off your new view.

Although the summer can be stressful, it is still popular for good reason. A summer move is more convenient for families and can make it easier to host a moving sale. As long as you make sure to plan in advance and are cautious with the heat, a summer move could be right for you!
