Get to know Camarillo, CA

The city of Camarillo is located in Ventura County.  It was named after Adolfo and Juan Camarillo, two Californios who founded the town, in an effort to preserve the city’s heritage when Anglo settlers arrived.  Prior to World War II the city experienced slow growth and was mainly agricultural land.  The construction of Oxnard Army Air Field just west of the city, as well as other military installations, brought workers and their families to Camarillo.  The city was incorporated in 1964 and is mainly a bedroom community today.  The city is home to Semtech and Salem Communications.  California State University, Channel Islands and Pleasant Valley School District are the largest employers in Camarillo.  Famous residents have included actress Kaley Cuoco and punk band Yellowcard.
