Get to know Spring, TX
The community of Spring is a census designated place under the jurisdiction of Houston. The area around Spring was initially home to the Orcoquiza Native Americans. In 1836 the area was put into the Harrisburg municipality. A town was created as a trading post in 1838 and by the mid-1940s immigrants from Germany and other parts of America had come to the town for farming. Sugar cane and cotton as well as some vegetables were the staple crops in Spring. The community expanded, beginning in 1871, when the International and Great Northern Railroad opened a line through Spring. In the early 20th century, the town had become a switchyard and continued to grow until the roundhouse was relocated to Houston in 1923. The area began to grow as the Houston suburbs expanded in the 1970s. Notable attractions include SplashTown Houston water park and Old Town Spring. Famous Spring residents have included Simone Biles, Matthew Bomer, and Jim Parsons.
